    Who Inherits When There Is No Will in Ohio?

    When someone dies without a valid will in Ohio, Ohio Revised Code Section 2105.06 determines who inherits the net probate estate. The order begins with a surviving spouse and descendants, then moves to parents, siblings, grandparents, and more distant relatives when closer family members do not exist. The statute applies to probate property. It generally does not change a valid beneficiary designation, survivorship account, trust distribution, or transfer-on-death arrangement.
